Core Features

Favorites & Search

Quickly find and pin your most important snippets.

As your snippet library grows, relying entirely on your memory for every keyword becomes impossible. Snipset provides built-in Search for instant lookup and a Favorites system for pinning your most critical, frequently used snippets.

Favoriting a Snippet

Favoriting allows you to pin specific snippets so they are always easily accessible, skipping the need to search for them.

  • How to Favorite: Click the star icon (☆) on any snippet card in the main list view. It will change to a filled star (★).
  • List Sorting: Favorited snippets are automatically sorted to the very top of your snippet list.
  • Magic Menu Priority: When you open the Magic Menu (Ctrl+[) and the search bar is empty, your favorited snippets are displayed at the top of the default suggestions.
  • Favorites are stored locally in your database and persist across app restarts.

Searching in the Snippets Page

When you need to find a snippet but can't remember its keyword, use the built-in search bar.

  • Shortcut: Press Ctrl+F when the main Snipset window is focused to instantly jump to the search bar.
  • What it searches: The search engine looks at the snippet's Name, Keyword, Description, and the actual Content text simultaneously.
  • Real-time: Results filter instantly as you type.
  • Contextual: Searching respects your current group filter. If you are viewing the "Work" group and perform a search, it will only search within the "Work" group. To search everything, make sure "All Snippets" is selected in the sidebar.

The Cheat Sheet

Sometimes you just want a bird's-eye view of everything you've created.

  1. Open the Cheat Sheet From the top menu bar, select View → Cheat Sheet (or use its keyboard shortcut).
  2. Print or Share The Cheat Sheet displays a compact, printable table of all your active snippets: Keyword → Name → Preview. It's excellent for printing out as a desk reference or sharing your setup with colleagues.

Note: The Cheat Sheet only displays enabled snippets. Disabled snippets are hidden.

Tips for Power Users

Use the Magic Menu! Opening the main app to search for a snippet is slow. Power users press `Ctrl+[` to summon the Magic Menu, type a few letters of the description, and press `Enter` to insert the snippet directly into their active window without ever breaking flow.
  • Keep Favorites lean: If you favorite 50 snippets, the feature loses its value. Try to keep your favorites list under 10 critical items.
  • Leverage Descriptions: Writing descriptive text in the "Description" field makes both the main search and Magic Menu search exponentially more effective. Don't rely on snippet Content alone.
